Scottish Rugby continues their relationship with long-standing dental partner Smile Plus Dental Care, the Official Dentist and Mouthguard Provider of Scottish Rugby and Edinburgh Rugby.
Fiona Davidson, the Practice Principal, has been the Official Dentist of Scottish Rugby for over a decade, delivering general and emergency dental care, as well as the provision of custom-made mouthguards.
Her expertise in the area led to the creation and launch of ‘GRIT Mouthguards’, which allows for custom-designed and fitted mouthguards to be made for all ages and sports, including official Scotland and Edinburgh designs.
Davidson said: “We’re delighted to continue our long association with Scottish Rugby. Over the last decade we have developed very strong working relationships with players at all levels, as well as the medical teams who do such an incredible job.
“We are thrilled to continue providing dental support to such a talented group, both on match-days and throughout the season.
“It’s an exciting time for SmilePlus as we officially launch our GRIT Mouthguard brand and it makes us proud to see Scotland’s top players wearing their GRIT mouthguards both for club and country.
“We hope that, through this partnership, we can raise awareness of the importance of wearing mouthguards by working with clubs and schools to encourage all players to wear them in sport.”
GRIT mouthguards are handmade in the company’s Edinburgh lab by highly-skilled, General Dental Council registered technicians, using an alginate impression, several pressure-laminated layers and a hand finish.
Dental injuries are among the most common type of injury in sport and wearing a mouthguard can help prevent trauma and damage.
Scottish Rugby’s Chief Medical Officer and Scotland Team Doctor, James Robson, said: “The importance of wearing a mouthguard to prevent damage should not be underestimated.
“We’re delighted to renew the partnership with SmilePlus and continue the excellent dental cover to which our players have become accustomed over last ten years.
“We look forward to working with Fiona and her team over the coming seasons to further shape this message.”
