Toronto Wolfpack has partnered with Rugby League Cares to be the Official Game Day Charity Partner for the home clash against St Helens on Saturday, May 2.

A far-reaching charity aiming to enrich lives through the positive influence of sport, Rugby League Cares will be in attendance at Lamport Stadium for the game as they prepare to embark on the fundraising adventure of a lifetime: The Empire State 500. In the days following the Wolfpack and St Helen’s fixture, a group of riders will be pushing themselves to the limits as they ride from Niagara Falls to New York City.

Raising money for several wonderful causes, the 500-mile off-road cycling journey will see riders braving the North American landscape as they spend six days in the saddle. Flying out of Manchester of Friday, May 1, participants will take in the Wolfpack’s match with St Helens before travelling to Niagara Falls to officially begin their remarkable adventure under their own steam.

Fans at Lamport Stadium will be able to donate in person to the Rugby League Cares team, receiving in return a special edition pin to mark the momentous occasion. The travelling Rugby League Cares contingent will also be warmly invited to the away fans Friday night welcome at Northern Maverick on May 1.

Rugby League legend Sam Burgess has recently confirmed his commitment to the cause after finding himself inspired by the courage of Rob Burrow, the Leeds Rhinos and UK veteran dealing with a Motor Neurone Disease diagnosis. A veteran of over 300 professional appearances, Burgess will be joining the group as they tackle the terrain on the way to New York.

Concluding on Friday May 8 as riders roll into the iconic Central Park, the Empire State 500 is an ambitious fundraiser and Rugby Care’s Chris Rostron spoke of his excitement:

“The Empire State 500 is going to be one tough, exciting and unforgettable experience for everyone who takes part. Building on the success of Ride to Wembley, we wanted to create a challenge that reflected the pioneering spirit of Rugby League, and the Empire State 500 does just that.”
